- An area of especial interest to me regards the relative high level of acceptance of extreme and so called 'deviant' sex practices as well as pornography - in what are also the lowest crime rate and highest egalitarian standard of living societies and cultures in the world (of which the great "richest country in the world" U.S.A. does not qualify among by any number of means and examples) -

These things and more to be coming here when I am able. I have MUCH more to add regarding Christian Control and the Word Faith movement, with its teachings that being sick and poor are in the realm of sin - this movement of non-denominational Christianity now dominating televangelism so uncannily backs up republican agendas right down to the most egregious belief being pushed that people simply do not even NEED health insurance because if they are good enough Christians and possess the right 'faith' they should not be getting sick - And how anyone fails to recognize how incredibly the contemporary Christian movements in the U.S.A. are paralleling republican agendas, is simply beyond me.

Canada's Ruling on Obscenity Constitution/Bondage & Humiliation Sex

The below quoted information comes from:
http://www.nostatusquo.com/ACLU/dworkin/other/ordinance/HillSilverOrd1.html

“In February 1992 Canada's Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that obscenity is to be defined by the harm it does to women and not by what offends our values.”
"In the United States, the obscenity laws are all about not liking to see naked bodies, or homosexual activity, in public," commented University of Michigan law professor Catharine MacKinnon, who helped write the law brief and along with author Andrea Dworkin has pioneered the "harm to women" approach to antipornography legislation. "Our laws in the United States don't consider the harm to women. But in Canada it will now be materials that subordinate, degrade or dehumanize women that are obscene."

This is an excellent article which I happened to stumble upon. I was always a bit frightened by Andrea Dworkin as a kid. This is the best thing I've ever read regarding her, and it has changed my opinion a fair amount. I wonder if she hadn't died she'd have eventually helped or seen similar legislation passed in the U.S.

This all really resonates with me personally, nearly everything in the article and theories behind the ruling, I think it could be a good place to draw the line, where women are concerned anyway. However with males and especially homosexual males, there isn't the least bit of concern by either party, and that I think is nice also. (As in, if there is not a problem there then why create one, seems to me the most pragmatic attitude to have towards the submissive male in art and porn, when it's at their own choice and will and you don't hear anyone barking up a storm over it, nor about psycholgical damage.)

Personally I have never had any inkling for bondage or humiliation sex or otherwise, not in anything I've ever output, and neither that I enjoy taking in. It’s not only of disinterest, it has disturbing connotations to me as well as a variety of other unpleasantries.

I am fascinated that gays have such a tolerance and at times seeming obsession with and for bondage and sometimes humiliation erotic imagery and sex. We all know there are some heterosexuals into such things of course, but it just doesn't seem to be nearly as high a percentage. Or is that largely just on the surface.

Heterosexuals are much more closeted in their sexual variances when off the considered norm. Where as with 'out' gays and lesbians being already open about their sexuality there is nothing so much to lose in disclosing such interests, and nothing to gain in dishonesty and keeping such things hidden away.

And other than the fear of being merely admittedly open about such interests, there are a great deal of internal issues heterosexuals have to deal with in allowing themselves to be interested in such things at all. Guilt and self-repression run rampant amongst many heterosexuals when it comes to that of which they are sexually inclined, but have been told it's not okay (your very eternal existence may be at stake here, or simply your embarrassment.) This goes for far more sexual practices and activities than just the bondage issue.

All in all, I'm not sure there is indeed truly a much greater percentile of homosexuals into bondage and sometimes humiliation sex, than heterosexuals - in fact, more than likely there is actually probably very little percentile difference regarding any kind of 'deviant' or otherwise 'alternative' sexual behavior or thoughts amongst homosexuals vs heterosexuals, all things considered.
I do know that rape is statistically higher indeed for heterosexual males vs homosexual males - and isn't that one of the most deviant forms of sexual behavior of all? Basically just about everything within the bondage and humiliation sentiment but without the costumes and consent, taken to an out of bounds and uncontrollable extreme. Unlike those people who play openly with certain desires and also manage to keep it for the most part, safe and under control.

And likewise the mythology of gay guys being more obsessed with sex than heterosexual males - needs to be dispelled - It is males in general. I could easily intricate on this.

The particular issue of bondage and sometimes humiliation in sex is I'm assuming based very deep in our fairly early developmental days and thus ingrained in our genetic inheritance even still actively, like so much else. I need to investigate some on any origin theories which may exist regarding the matter.

  1. Very good post Bradley...I think you covered a lot of territory and succeeded in being balanced. I have never been one for more unusual sex fetishes like S&M, bondage or water sports. The extent of my fetishes are confined to finding beauty in the male armpit and to actually smell and lick one but other than that I am more of a run of the mill fag. That is not to say that I will approve of every aberration nor will I criticize it either. Live and let live....
